How Do You Get Fingerprints with Ink?

Are you interested in knowing - How do you get fingerprints with ink? For more than a century, fingerprinting has been indispensable for personal identification and security. Of all the methods employed, the ink and roll fingerprint technique remains one of the most widely used and traditional methods.

In this process, the fingertips of a person get inked. Then, the inked fingertip is rolled on a fingerprint card to get the unique ridge pattern of thumbs and other fingers.

Even though digital fingerprinting has gained immense popularity in recent times, the traditional ink and roll method remains prevalent for many situations primarily for its simplicity and reliability.

How Is the Ink and Roll Fingerprint Process Done?

The following steps remain involved with the traditional ink and roll fingerprint method:

1. Preparation: The hands of the subject should be clean and dirt-free at the time of inking. Therefore, the process begins with making the subject’s hands dirt, oil, and spot-free.

2. Applying Ink: After cleaning the hands of the subject, the fingers are inked carefully using an ink pad. Generally, black ink is recommended for the same. The ink must be applied with adequate pressure to ensure that the layer is neither too thick nor too thin. This will help to obtain a clear impression.

3. Rolling The Fingers: In the next step, the fingerprint is collected on a fingerprint card by rolling the ten inked fingers on the card from nail to nail. It is important to roll the fingers in a consistent fashion to ensure that the ink does not get smudged. Flat prints may also be required based on the format of the fingerprint card.

4. Drying the Card: Next, the card is left to dry so that the fingerprint remains legible and clear.  Once it is dried, the details on the card for the individual must be filled out.

Egypt, Hong Kong, South Africa, etc. The police clearance certificates are used for various reasons, some of which are listed below:
