Flin Flon is a small mining city with a population of more than 5,000 residents situated at the frontier of Saskatchewan and Manitoba provinces. Most parts of the city are in the Province of Manitoba, but it is co-administered by both Provinces. As a result, most of the residents frequently move southwest towards Saskatchewan and northeast towards Manitoba.
The city has Flin Flon Airport to the southeast region and close to Bakers Narrows Provincial Park. The city hosts scheduled flights to Winnipeg from the airport regularly. In addition, there is a private aircraft airport located in the neighbouring community of Channing, Manitoba.
More often than not, the vast majority of Flin Flon’s economy is attributed to mining, specifically base metals such as copper and zinc, with very few deposits of gold or silver. It can be observed that such a mining background has been the foundation of the city’s evolution and retains a central position in the city even today.
