Because it serves as a focal point for services and commutation in the northern part of the region, Thompson which is situated in the north of Manitoba is nicknamed the “Hub of the North.” It was established in the 1950s after nickel was found, and since then, it has developed into one of the largest cities in northern areas of Manitoba with a population of around 13,000 people.
The economy of the city is largely dependent on the business of nickel mining but this also acts as an education, health, and shopping hub for ancillary towns.
Thompson is nestled in raw beauty with vast stretches of essential amenities such as forests, rivers, and lakes which provide a perfect environment for engaging in various outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, snowmobiling and even bird watching. Features of the town also include the Spirit Way transcenter which is a historical and cultural path filled with murals, sculptures, and stunning vistas.
On one hand, Thompson creates employment in various industries, while at the same time allowing one to interact with the vast and beautiful various landscapes of Manitoba. This makes it a great place to stay and visit.
