Gander is a town situated in the East-central part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and is most notable for its aviation history. Created in the 1930s as a military installation, Gander… was used as a major refueling base for transatlantic flights during the Second World War, courtesy of its geographical position. At present, Gander International Airport is of great importance to the image of the town, as it functions as an airport for the residents and also represents the town's well-remembered aviation history.
Gander boasts of being a growing society, having inhabitants who like the city and country lifestyle intertwined. Within a short, the town has expanded into a regional center of some commercial activities, providing services such as health, education, and retail services to this town and its hinterland. In addition, Gander has a vibrant and active social and cultural life, with provision for sports, the arts, and outdoor pursuits. Residents and tourists partake in hiking, skiing, and snowmobiling owing to the picturesque scenery that surrounds the town.
Of course, Gander is most appreciated for one thing – its hospitality. For instance, when the attacks on September 11 2001 occurred, many people who were flying to different destinations found themselves in the town. This is an example of community nurturing which inspired the well-rated play Come From Away. Such has been the case with Gander up to now, a city baying for new occupants and tourists alike with its sanguine history.
