Located in northern Manitoba, Cross Lake is a small community. This community is recognized as the Cross Lake First Nation, which is part of the Pimicikamak Cree Nation. The community has a strong connection to traditions such as taking part in fishing, hunting, and trapping among other activities. Also, Cross Lake offers breathtaking landscapes as it is situated along the Nelson River and Cross Lake.
Over the years, Cross Lake has built and expanded various infrastructures to serve the population, such as schools, medical centers, and social services. Besides its remote location, the place is reachable over land and through the skies. The people in the region cherish their way of life and practice it through cultural activities, such as organizing community events and festivals, as well as taking part in rituals.
As much as Cross Lake has experienced challenges in social and economic advancement, interventions are put in place to improve the living conditions of the populace. The development of the community focuses on the center of the youth while seeking to enhance their well-being, education, health, and governance. In general, however, Cross Lake is a people-centered and culturally active place-based community in northwestern Manitoba.
