Planning to move to Colombia? Let Globeia take care of your Canadian Document Legalization for Colombia. There is a lot to love about Colombia. Its growing economy, reliable government, agreeable educational systems, and commendable health care make it one of the top destinations for immigrants and ex-pats. Many locals also choose to work there because of the overwhelming opportunities that await them, while others ought to buy properties in this wonderful country.
What’s good about Colombia?

The locals are amiable and are easy to know. They will make you feel that you’re part of the family the moment you step into their abodes. Colombians’ Spanish is easiest to understand, too, as they have no accent virtually speaking.

Many individuals try their luck in Colombia to find a decent job. Here, most workers receive two “13th-month” bonuses, one right before Easter and the other during the Christmas season. All employees are also entitled to enjoying a 14-day paid vacation. On the other hand, maternity and paternity leaves are two weeks and 4-8 days.

Culture-wise, Colombia offers wonderful resources as well. Vibrant clubs in Bogota and Cali, as well as the sandy shores of Cartagena, await you in this country. Dazzling parks and gardens, deep biodiversity, and impressive mountains and rainforests are the top cherries.
Aside from the above-mentioned reasons, Colombia offers the following that makes immigrants choose the country as their future place of work :

  • Access to affordable health care
  • Easy retirement visa application
  • Lower cost of living
  • Life at a slower, chill pace

Have your Documents Ready

Colombia has been a member of the Hague Apostille Convention since January 30, 2001. This means that all official documents destined for this country need to have an apostille from the Secretary of State.

If you are a Canadian and are looking forward to working (or even moving) to Colombia, you must undergo a rigorous process. Your documents will be valid if and only if they are “apostilled.” We don’t use that term in Canada, but it is equivalent to having your documents authenticated and legalized.
This process is composed of three steps:

Make sure that all of the necessary documents are complete and well prepared.
The Ministry of Global Affairs must authenticate these documents.
All of these files must also be legalized by The Embassy of Colombia.
Speaking of documents, it’s always best to have everything prepared. Here’s a checklist of what you need to have before the authentication and legalization process:

  1. Copy of passport
  2. Birth certificate
  3. Driver’s license
  4. University degree
  5. Transcripts
  6. Power of attorney
  7. Marriage license
  8. Proof of single status
  9. Proof of residency

The apostille is necessary not only for those who want to immigrate to Colombia but it is also needed for those who want to work or study there.

Note that there is only a single location for The Ministry of Global Affairs. It can be found in the capital, Ottawa. This is where The Embassy of Colombia is also located. However, the Consulate of Colombia can be found in Toronto.
A hassle-free process awaits you.
